Welcome to Inner Canvas Counseling

Imagine yourself as a canvas with beautiful splashes of paint.

Every layer of paint on the canvas adds just one element of everything that makes up big, bright, and beautiful YOU.

The joys and successes of life are there, layered on your canvas, but you also have early childhood experiences, family dynamics, culture, faith, health, finances, and every obstacle you’ve ever encountered.

Over time, these layers make it hard to see what we originally started with. Even though some of these paint layers were added by others or are from experiences we didn’t intend to face, it is up to us to determine which layers of our canvas we want to keep and which ones we would like to scrape away in order to show the world who we really are.

Our inner canvas, so to speak.

When we let our inner canvas shine through, that is when we truly become ourselves.

Meet Ashley

Hi, I’m Ashley, and I’m so glad you’ve found your way to Inner Canvas Counseling. I’m a professional therapist with over 20 years of experience in art therapy.

My clients always have the option to create and engage in the art therapy process but are never pressured to do so – so if you’re reading this thinking: “But I’m not an artist, how can I do art therapy?”, don’t write me or my process off just yet! We still might be the perfect fit.

I typically work with adolescents, college students, and adults in a one-on-one therapy setting, but I have also supported younger children, couples, and families too.

What is Art Therapy?

(And can I do art therapy if I don’t consider myself an “artist”?)

The short answer: YES!

You can absolutely benefit from art therapy even if you don’t feel like you are an artist.

Art therapy is a form of psychotherapy involving the encouragement of self-expression through art processes with the belief that making art is healing and life-enhancing.

Art therapy aims to improve a person's physical, mental, and emotional well-being.

Art therapists can assist with understanding the psychological and emotional undertones of the art created, which allows the individual to obtain a better understanding of their feelings and behavior.  This allows the person to move on and resolve deeper issues.
